German Choir visits Utah

This last week was a great opportunity to renew friendships with many of the Young Single Adults that we met and worked with in Europe. The Vocalis Choir is a group of young members of the Church that get together once a month (some coming from 500 miles away) to spend a weekend practicing their singing. They are led by Sonja Sperling from Frankfurt who is an extremely talented young woman. They have put on over 30 concerts in the 3 1/2 years they have been in existence, singing in Budapest, Bratislava and in the church in Copenhagen where the original Christus statue is located to name just a few. We traveled with them several times and associated with them at Tagungs (YSA Conferences) etc. Some are the children of CES people we worked with, some of other missionary couples, some were missionaries in some of the places we lived like Dortmund and Berlin.

This Tuesday they filled the chapel in the JS building for a musical fireside. President Uchtdorf and his wife attended. Then Friday they were invited as part of Temple Square programs to put on a concert in the Assembly Hall. Again, Pres. Uchtdorf and other General Authorities attended. It was marvelous. They are a very accomplished choir and their main goal is to bear testimony of Jesus Christ through music.

  1. How delightful to see PICTURES of the group my friends Carolyn and Conrad Jacobson raved so much about. They got to be head ushers at your European group's rehearsals and concerts, and speak with many of the kids (in German, of course! Conrad's PhD was in German Literature -- a useless but loving major, after which he became an Army Intelligence investigator. They're my best friends from Michigan who live in Bountiful now.) It was fun to see them. I bet you loved every minute. I hear they got to meet Mac Wilburg, whose arrangements they sang, and were MOST excited about that.

I hope to see you at the shower for our sister (Leslie?) on Saturday.

    Love, Lorie
